Quick Start Guide

1

Download & Install

Download Inspense for your platform and run the installer. On macOS, drag to Applications. On Windows, run the MSI. On Linux, make the AppImage executable.

2

Add Your API Key (Optional)

Go to Settings and add your OpenAI or Anthropic API key for AI-powered categorization. You can skip this and categorize manually if you prefer.

3

Import Transactions

Export transactions from your bank as CSV and drag them into Inspense. We'll auto-detect the format or help you map columns.

4

Categorize & Export

Use AI or manual categorization to organize your expenses, then export for your accountant.

Installation Questions

Is Inspense safe to install?

Yes, Inspense is code-signed on macOS and Windows. On macOS, you may need to right-click and select 'Open' the first time you run it if you downloaded from the web.

Does it require an internet connection?

No, Inspense works offline for most features. The only feature that requires internet is AI categorization, which calls OpenAI or Anthropic APIs.

How do I get an API key?

You can get an OpenAI API key at platform.openai.com or an Anthropic API key at console.anthropic.com. Both offer pay-as-you-go pricing.

Can I use Inspense on multiple computers?

Your license allows installation on up to 3 computers for personal use. Your data is stored locally, so you'll need to export/import if you want to sync between machines.
